Synopsis

In the strict world of the court, Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando, who has been left penniless by his older brother, Oliver. When Rosalind is banished from the court by her usurping uncle, Duke Frederick, Rosalind takes on the appearance of a boy calling herself Ganymede. She flees with her cousin Celia, in disguise as Aliena, and the jester Touchstone to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. Themes of life and love are explored, as new friends are made and love lives entwine. Orlando turns up in Arden, running from his murderous brother, and carves Rosalind’s name on all the trees. Touchstone falls for Audrey, Silvius pines for Phoebe, and Phoebe falls for Ganymede (who is really Rosalind). Love is madness! Oliver comes to the forest perusing, Orlando, and has a life-changing experience and, subsequently, falls in love with Celia. By the end of the play, four couples are married, identities are revealed, the exiled find a purpose, and families are reunited. What will you find in the forest?
